Digital Art
Digital art is something I have had a great appreciation of, for several years. When I first got into photography, I would buy all these magazines and tutorials books and see digital art being mixed with great photographs to create stunning imagery. However my lack of photoshop skill at the time kept me from trying my hand at such things. I thought I would leave it to the pro's.
Well skip to a couple of years later and countless hours of watching youtube videos and I have grasped a bit of basic knowledge when it comes to photoshop. However it wasn't until I met the model Sister of sinister ( The model in the picture), that I was given the freedom to experiment and see what sort of crazy things I could do to the already great set of photographs we had managed to capture on our shoots.
Having been given the task to turn her beautiful blue eyes to an almost alien like complete black and have the effect of it running down her face, I went through different variations and techniques to get a result that I would be happy with. I tried creating wet paint looks / fake blood / water droplets and anything else you can think of to create something realistic.
After spending a few weeks trying all of these different things, I came to the realisation that why not go for something a bit more unrealistic.
So I went away and started to get ideas together. Started to get some textures photographed so I could use them within the image to produce a more ''Grungy '' feel.
Putting all the elements in place and just having the mindset of just going for it, I commenced the project to get to to the final image you see above.
For someone who has a okay knowledge of photoshop, I was finding myself getting lost and easily frustrated at every turn I took. This was a little bit more complexed then my standard beauty retouching I normally do. Many many layers were created, moved, resized, shaped toned, coloured, removed then reapplied over again and agin to get something I was truly happy with.
I can honestly say that I'm a very happy with my first real attempt at creating a digital art piece.
Let me know what you think as well.
