Black & white portraiture is one of my favourite things to do within photography. Compared to colour portraits, it strips everything away and leaves just a stark and often more realistic view of the subject. It doesn't matter what colour the person hair is, what colour of eye make up they have on or lipstick. Black and white gives you just the details that make the person what they are.
This was a shot from a project I started last year. I decided to go back and look over some of my old work and see if I could tweak it a little. I love my models eyes in this shot. Head on eye contact is really powerful when used in the right way. The original image was a little bit soft and for me lacked a little bit of oomph. So I reworked it and gave it some more contrast and replicated an old school film look, with plenty of fine grain and dust spots.
